ENQUIRE ABOUT THIS WORK

Malcolm Pate is a Canadian artist whose work explores the evocative nature of light. Pate uses naturally occurring and generated light to create ethereal echoes of reality. Employing cognitive neuroscientific theories of associative memory, visual object identification, and pattern recognition, he seeks to distil each subject to their core essence - a ghostly reflection of the world we perceive. His work explores where simplified patterns and systems bring personal memories into focus, evoking a unique response in the viewer, one that often defies description in words but instead conjures connection and feeling. As we face a future where nature as we know it may be little more than a memory, Pate endeavours to discover pathways to maintain our connection to the peace it provides.

A graduate of fine art at Chelsea College of Art, Pate’s work has been shown internationally at Aomori Museum of Art (Japan), Barbican Art Gallery (UK), Eltuek Arts Centre (Canada), Fosun Foundation (China), Louise Blouin Foundation Gallery (UK), McIntosh Gallery (Canada), New Museum (USA), and the Southbank Centre (UK), among others.
