ENQUIRE ABOUT THIS WORK

Christina Bothwell is an American contemporary sculptor born in New York and now living and working in rural Pennsylvania. She is widely  known for her metaphorical, narrative glass, ceramic, and mixed media sculptures that often portray the processes of birth, death, and renewal. Art critic Mark Zimmerman said “Bothwell’s work turns symbols into spirits of creation.” Beginning in childhood, Bothwell had “experiences beyond the five senses,” such as premonitions and lucid dreams, that have convinced her of a spiritual dimension that transcends the material world. That awareness has heavily influenced her work. Hovering bewteen the physical and metaphysical and in the process revealing a vulnerability that we may recognize as our own.

Christina Bothwell has won numerous scholarships and grants including a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant and a Virginia A. Groot Foundation award for excellence in fine art sculpture. Her work has been exhibited widely and is held in many international private and public collections including the Corning Museum of Glass in New York; Racine Art Museum; Shanghai Museum of Glass Art; Mobile Museum of Art; Palm Springs Museum and the Alexander Tutsek - Stiftung foundation in Munich.
