Now that the exhibition is over the works are returning to Finland where they will be included in ‘The Illusion’ at Tampere Art Museum, from 26/2 - 22/5/2022.
The exhibition is the first large-scale exhibition of interactive installation art in Finland. On display are multi media art, installations, immersive art and sculpture from the pioneers of Finnish interactive art including Jarno Vesala, Petri Eskelinen, Hanna Haaslahti, Markus Kåhre, Jaana Partanen, Pasi Rauhala and Heidi Tikka. In interactive and especially immersive art, the viewer plays a primary subjective role by becoming enveloped in the illusion, through the experience of belonging to the world of the work, rather than occupying the traditional outside objective view of it. The works are predominantly recent, with many of the works completed specifically for this exhibition alongside notable or renowned interactive artworks from recent decades. In some works, the participation of viewers is concrete and functional, in some it is more subtle, spatial and psychological. The works in the exhibition deal with a variety of themes, such as disappearance and temporality, the subconscious and the dream world, parenting and interpersonal relationships, and the exercise of social power. The unifying factor between the different works is in the giving of the viewer an active role.
