Jarno Vesala Solo Exhibition at Gallery Himmelblau in Tampere

Jarno Vesala's solo exhibition ‘Construction of a Homecoming' at Gallery Himmelblau presents two new works consisting of video projection, sculpture and objects.

One installation depicts a fragmented space, where the 'time-static’, multi-layered work appears as a three-dimensional life size, living photograph, where the full size sculptural figures become viewable from multiple angles, with different layers becoming apparent as the viewer enters the exhibition space and becomes further immersed.

The second work is a life-size figurative sculpture with video projection. The inherent humanity of the subject is subverted shifting from human to ‘artwork’ by the shifting of presentation from floor to wall mounting. The simple arrangement of the work shows a human figure curled under a blanket - the viewer is compelled to empathise with the emotional state of the character. Could they be homeless, perhaps a prisoner, a depressive, a wounded or dying man, or a father overcome with worry about the state of the world?

The exhibition is open until 13/11/22 at Gallery Himmelblau, Tampere.
